Original Art and Poetry by Ingrid H. Turner
"Enough"
Enough.
Stilettos that make our
legs long but
deform our feet.
Contour and shading, rosy
cheeks and knockout lips, but
can't take a lover for a night.
Enough.
Soft, silky, scent-filled
creams for our
thighs because
Sitting in an office with
staff and vodka, to entice
carving our face back to twenty-five.
Enough.
Straddling a boy on
one hip, and strapping
the girl to servitude
Climbing over a glass
ceiling and dodging
pats on the ass
Enough.
Being told to "smile!" by
old men, and grinning
through the rage, because
Can’t say no to sex
because boys get
mad, and that’s consent.
Enough.
Fear of the night, and
speaking up, and
saying no, fucking thank you
Crippling compromise, and
Terrorizing and
Traumatizing, and sitting down.
Enough.
There will be no more
holding back the
tears and the screams, because
Enough.
The women
have had
enough.
